Do you thinking that just misting it occasionally would suffice?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766825872703394586.post-67426154130688775512008-07-31T12:01:00.000-07:002008-07-31T12:01:00.000-07:00Oh I DO like that. Can't spare a birdy house right now though. :) They're occupied.Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11308992169354124015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766825872703394586.post-27830740146805509842008-07-31T04:30:00.000-07:002008-07-31T04:30:00.000-07:00Fern- what a neat thing! I noted your comment there also...and i have a kitty cat! i was thinking i could build that house on my screenroom for him, as you suggested with catnip growing on top! He could spend most of his time laying on top!!! LOL-- but quite happily!!!

Claude- you are right--it is such a shallow top, it may not need much drainage...i was thinking...instead of wood for the top, i coiuld use a shallow 8 x 8 metal baking pan, and drill just a couple of holes in bottom. It would be too humid here I believe without some drain holes....I would also worry about rot here...so would use treated wood for the body of the house also.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04402220963886597754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766825872703394586.post-41358137664167994812008-07-31T03:31:00.000-07:002008-07-31T03:31:00.000-07:00Green roofs for the fauna... interesting... The moss is shoved inside it and the plants planted through it. Maybe you could rig up something with hardware cloth? Not sure drainage would be an issue, here in Texas that would dry out in an hour.Claudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04568424354642247198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766825872703394586.post-226376414426231562008-07-30T23:44:00.000-07:002008-07-30T23:44:00.000-07:00Even birds can have green roofs! I saw a dog house with a green roof awhile back, so it makes sense that birds should have an eco-friendly (not to mention totally adorable!) place to call home too. I saw them at Apartment Therapy if you're interested in checking the dog house version out.
