Little Lizard looking around...probably for an opening into my house...
I caught this little lizzy looking around on the edge of my succulent tires today! He's kinda cute...from afar! (Hey...I had to take this shot from my bathroom window to keep from scaring him away). Normally the lizards are climbing into my house through any possible microscopic crack or crevice...only for one purpose...to leave a trail of lizard poop! No matter where you go in south Florida you will find lizard poop on every window sill...inside and out! It's disgusting...and my Mom is actually trying to come up with any unusual plan of attack! She read about soaking corn kernels in God only knows what kind of liquid, that would poison them. She sets traps, bait, shoots at them with rat shot from her rifle (OK, I made that part up)...but basically we are on a hunt to find a way to keep them out of our houses, and outdoor places like window ledges, inside our grills, etc. Any ideas???
P.S. Check out the sparkles/shine on those glass stones in the tires...pretty cool, huh?
Nah, you are too kind to kill a lizard. ( anole ) My cats used to drag them in the house all the time, leaving a trail of dropped lizard tails. Do you know they wiggle for a little while even when they are detached from the lizard? I always just chased and picked up the little tailless creatures and took them back outside. Even if they nip you, it doesn't hurt. Our native green Anole is threatened and I think that they are all worth protecting.
ReplyDeleteYour lizards are seeking 2 simple things in their lives, shelter and food.
ReplyDeleteThey are actually performing a valuable service by eating lots and lots of pesky bugs. The poop is just an inconvenient side effect.
I would be very careful in setting out any poison that could also harm birds, cats, cute little dogs, etc. And remember, if you reduce the lizard population, the bug population will go up.
Well...I am looking more at sealing leaks into the house...like along window casings, etc. But I really don't think anything will really help...it's just a fact of life here. Now, as for my Mom...who knows what she will do...she is a one man army against lizards and ants!!! I have a dog and a cat so would never really be a poison person...besides you could never make a dent in the problem anyway...I've about given up worrying about it! Maybe I should do a post about how lizards are our friends!!! It's the truth, and I know it...I just have to live with their poop.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute lizard. The sparkles on the glass stones are lovely. Maybe you can leave out shallow dishes of water as I've read that lizards like to defecate in water. Maybe you can control where they poop that way?
ReplyDeleteYour lizards seem a lot bigger than what we have running around in our neighborhood. We have them here in Southern, California, but they don't try to get into our houses...yet. Of course, it's very much tropical in Florida, right? It's dryer here. Do you get a lot of bugs because of the wet weather too? I could see what Cindy is saying, that it's good that they eat the bugs, but still poop everywhere would be a real nuisance!
ReplyDeleteAHHHHH....that almost gave me a heart attack... I had to quickly scroll down... ::panic:: I don't know why I have such an unfounded fear of lizards but I really do...It's troublesome but I do not ever want to face my fear bc that would mean I might have to touch one...But I've never wanted to hurt one. That makes me sad.
