WarmUpAmerica.org

Something new for the start of the New Year! My Mom, my friend and I are making crocheted or knitted squares for Warm Up America.org. We drop off our completed squares to our local Michaels Craft store and a group of people hook all of them together to make afghans for our local VA Hospital. I'm not sure if all Michaels are doing it across the nation, but there is an address at their website where you can mail completed stuff to. The afghans go to all kinds of charities. It has been fun for me during my last 4 days off. I kinda vowed to make 1 square each day I was off, and I was doing fine....as long as I was crocheting. Then I got the big idea to try knitting. Ha! I have about 8 rows done and it is so slow for me, compared to crochet!
Here is a pic of my completed 3 crocheted squares, plus one of Mom's (same color), and the start of my 1 knitted one...which I am thinking I will end and finish off both ends with crochet anyway! So much for the big knitting experiment!!! LOL. Please don't look at the wrinkled sheet...I had laid it out to build a puzzle on tonight, and we never ended up doing it! Back to the closet it goes!

  2. what a great idea. i crochet little baby blankets for a charity here in the uk called 'cuddles'. these blankest are used in hospitals for premature and stillborn babies. love to sit and crochet every day and watch telly at the same time (then i don't feel so useless just watching telly.)

  3. Good for you and your Mom Julie. A worthy project indeed. I don't know how to knit or crochet. I tried years ago but it just wasn't for me. I will never forget my Mother's friend asking me "what were you doing?" and I couldn't even tell her. ha....

  6. This sounds like a good project. I can't do any kind of needlework; never learned, and now I have thumb arthritis and am clumsier than ever, so it's too late for me. Is there anything you can't do?
