What is your best idea??

For a succulent plant for me to plant along one edge of a chain link fence, that could grow relatively fast, and to a height of at least 4 ft. I am thinking a big clump of aloe. It needs to be able to hide my a/c unit too! Any good to great ideas pop into mind????

  1. While a regular aloe will work, The first thing I thought of was the climbing aloe, Aloe ciliaris var. ciliaris, a plant that I've always wanted but never really had the room to grow... it could be trained to grow right up that chain link fence... It has orange blooms too... but lets see what others come up with...

  4. Seems like Aloe would work by the fence if they are fast growers.
Otherwise, Ornamental grass is also a great way to hide ac units.

  5. I don't know much about gardening in the tropical weather you have Julie. The Aloe you have pictured is pretty. It will be interesting to see what you plant.

  7. Just don't plant too closely to the a/c unit. I understand that they need to be free of debris.

  9. OMG! That plant is huge!!! What a fabulous lush photo!

Question...Actually...just a thought...Do you not need to keep a margin around your air conditioner for air circulation?

  10. Margaret- the a/c unit is about 5 ft. away from the fence...the fence is just in front of where you could block the view of it from the street!

  11. Cathy...great idea using a large ornamental grass. I doubt they would need much water either, once established!!! Thanks for this idea!!!!
