Looky what I got...Claude and I are winners!!!

SAM (Secret Aging Man), husband of Walk 2 Write, posted a rock identifying challenge on their blog, and both Claude, and I were winners! I'd say Claude was a bit more of a winner than I since he kinda knew the second rock was some sort of petrified poop (and I didn't)...but SAM kindly let me win too, so it was a lot of fun for me! See what I recieved in the mail today? A box with my name on it (NO...MY NAME IS NOT "FIRST CLASS", lol):

Filled with all sorts of really neat rocks! Purdy ones, too!!! Yee-haw! (I really love the amethyst one)!!! Oh, my gosh...I thought I would win just ONE rock, but 5??? WOWZERS! I just love them all, and SAM...thankyou so much!!! I enjoyed the challenge...I want to take a geology class now! He even gave me hints as to which geology class might be best, which I truely appreciate! Thanks so much, SAM!
He even labelled each one, and gave me a paper he wrote up about each specimen! I was very intregued by the Barite Rose, since this is the stuff that is used in Barium enemas and swallows...tests given at the hospital to determine intestinal conditions! Not fun tests either!!! I have not taken one, but have gotten many people ready to take them over the years!

Thanks again SAM! I love them all!!!!!

  3. How cool is this?? I love your rocks. That barite rose is gorgeous. I have had one of those tests and the barium tastes like ground up rock. Yeck. I would rather have it in this form.

  4. Claude- You know I've been thinking...maybe the best way would be for me to find a geology textbook at the thrift store or used on ebay and just study it myself. Then I could save the 300 darn dollars for the class!!!

  6. Thanks for the link, Julie. I'm really glad you enjoyed the rock specimens! You might enjoy subscribing to a rock collecting magazine, such as "Gems & Minerals". Another good magazine is "Lapidary Journal" but this one is more geared toward jewelry making. I use to get these magazines decacades ago and I'm pretty sure they are still in publication. They may have them at Barnes & Noble or you could search for them on-line.
