This is a picture of the pavillion in Blanchard, Louisiana...named for a yearly festival(In May)that they have there! As soon as I saw it, I had to pull over for a picture for my blogging friend, Mary at
Pokeberry Hill. She always talks about the Pokeberries on the hill (mountainside) of her new home! I am actually still wondering if these two are the same!
Poke Salad. I've never seen it before, but here is a picture I found online. It looks and sounds so interesting!!!
The website for this past years festival...if you are interested, is
HERE.
Yep... that's poke weed... I had one coming up in my back yard for a few years, I kept it from spreading too much, but the birds loved it.
ReplyDeletePoke can be eaten when it is very young, less than six inches tall... but after that the leaves develop a toxin. The plant, at least the one in my back yard, got 8 feet tall. I cut out the side shoots, and kept the branches cut off below 4 feet, and it actually made an interesting topiary kind of plant, but not interesting enough to plant it on purpose...
wow i know nothing about poke, not this kind anyway.
ReplyDeleteI have never liked the idea of eating Poke. I had a friend years ago that liked it. Interesting that they have a festival to celebrate poke.
ReplyDeleteHello my sweet friend. Of all my blogging friends, you have known me the longest. You have always been then there through all of my ups and downs. Do you know what that means to me? I am so glad that you are having a wonderful trip. I love Pokeberry shrubs- I had one in Canada, and I think they are so interesting to look at. I really think that I am on the mend for good, and I just wanted to thank you for being who you are. Here's to many bright days ahead for us both!
