My friend got a cutting of a giant Begonia, and it has grown into this plant!!! It is huge! The leaves are amazing!!! She will give me a cutting as soon as one of three things happen after my cat dies...either the grandkids get old enough not to mess with it, or the grandkids move out of my house to a place of their own. Quite frankly, am willing to wait...but when I do get one, it will be my new baby, and I will love it so much!!!
Anyone know what the official name of this amazonian plant is???
Never mind the plant, what's the matter with your cat?? :(
ReplyDeleteor is this plant toxic to kitties, and you just don't want to risk your cat nibbling the leaves?
Cindy- my cat is ok...I just don't want an indoor plant with having a cat around...he is so distructive...knocks them over all the time...digs in the dirt, etc. Sorry for not clarifying that more...
ReplyDeleteOk, I figured it might be something like that. Like when I say I'm not getting new furniture till the dog dies :P
ReplyDeleteIt's either an Angel Wing Begonia or a Dragon Wing Begonia, one has spots and the other does not...I guess you could google images to clarify it more...oh, they root easy peasy!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like some type of Angel Wing Begonia to me. They can get quite large and there are many types. I just love begonias.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Has it bloomed yet?
ReplyDeleteWicked...no blooms yet...but actually the plant that her cuttings came from...maybe her friend can tell us what color at least!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea of Dragon Wing Darla! I had googled Angel wing and did not see any images that quite matched...I will try Dragon though!!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWow, look at the leaves on that. Just beautiful and good luck with it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Hi Julie *hugs*
ReplyDeleteBeautiful plant...wow thats quite a few sacrafices you would have to make to have that plant...in one way I hope you have to wait a long time...*s*.
Too bad your kitty is a problem with cats.
I hope you've been having a good week...gorgeous weather here, most lovely springlife for a change.
Judi
I had no idea Begonias could get that big! That's one amazing plant, I love the spots on the leaves.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is amazing!!! I know you will be a good 'mother' to your cutting when you get it. :)
ReplyDeleteMy Mom had one like that but this one seems bigger.... must be the climate you are living in!
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your weekend Julie ♥
Amazing plant- I want one- i guess I'll have to google it to see where i can find one.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing

Definitely angel/dragon wing/cane begonia. It looks like it's been getting a fair amount of nitrogen and shade by the looks of it. They'll bloom like crazy and stay a bit smaller if given more phosphorous if I have that right. The blooms are quite precious - like little dangley cherries, and they look great in a hanging basket which makes it easier to see the flowers from below. It really is a pretty plant! I'd want a cutting too!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great plant! I am sure you are chomping at the bit for your cutting! And I am so glad you don't have to give up your blog or plants. Your Mom is awesome to help.
