A Loxahatchee River day!

My husband I had a day date on Sunday when we went to a RiverFest at Jonathan Dickenson State Park, in Jupiter Florida. We hiked on the Kitching Trail, and took a guided cruise down the Loxahatchee River, where we saw a lot of preserved "Old Florida", and found a few hidden treasures...

Behind the leaves of the Palmetto:

Many Osprey nests high in the trees!

Loads of lovely pine trees (my favorite)!

My best find of the day...an Opuntia in bloom!!!

And a couple of alligators!

It was a beautiful day!

  1. That looks like so much fun Julie. You took some beautiful pictures. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the alligators though, Yikes. While I love lizards and the like...alligators are just so...huge and colossal with big, sharp teeth, LOL. I'd love to visit Florida one of these days.

  2. I'll stick with the Opuntia. Those aligators are not my favorite thing. When I was about 3 or 4, I was taken to an aligator farm in Mesa, AZ, and told to touch a baby aligator while a handler held its mouth and tail. It just made me ill, and I've never liked them since!

  3. Oh God, that is a very sad story, Aiyana...it makes me sick to think of it! Strange how these things affect us for our whole lives! You must have hated to watch Steve Irwin when he was in action. I always just keep in mind that these poor creatures don't have a choice what they are born as...even though they are big, ugly (although this one looks kind of cute to me with his mouth open), and have huge teeth, and are mighty powerful!!!!!!! LOLOL.

  5. Wow what great pics! I especially love the pine trees.

Gators scare me a little...I hear there is a big problem with them eating peoples' cats.

  6. I'm more scared of the mosquitos biting me than the gators! (They tore me up tonight, and I was only out for ten minutes.) It is fun to find a gator in the wild, especially one that big. It was a perfect weekend for it.

  8. Are the pine trees native to Florida? I've noticed some interesting things about pine tree: That you find them in all sorts of climates, (which surprised me), and they change their shape and form because of it. Your pines sort of have a palm tree look to them. In the lower desert of the west, they are bushy looking and in the higher desert and mountain ranges they are more traditional, tall and very green. In other words, they look like trees!
