A few interesting pics!
We went to a show and sale on Sunday, at Mounts Botanical Gardens in West Palm Beach. My daughter took a picture of the sign above, which I found uploaded into my laptop tonight...ain't it grand???
I think this is called an "umbrel" of blooms on a hoya (above). Just which kind, I have no idea, but isn't it just the sweetest??? My daughter shot this!
OK...now my daugher took a pic of these orchid roots. I find them to be way more fascinating than the blooming end! Don't they just look "succulent" in nature? Why, yes, they are!!! LOL.
Now moving over to the desert garden at the local college, I found the stapeliad just bursting with blooms (above), and this was only about one half of the total plant material...just outstanding...I keep my eye on this plant year-round...
The sad thing is that right now, this garden is just neglected so badly...maybe when it cools down the students can get out there and clean it up...or maybe the lady that overlooks it will let me go over there and play!!!
Tonight as I was driving home, I remembered that I had seen this little opuntia growing in a row in front of this privacy fence...it needs to be cleaned out (weeds), but it is so adorable with it's little micro pads!
And one more pic that I found in my own neighborhood, a huge prickly pear (below) (thornless, actually) only about 5 houses down from mine!
Everyone have a wonderful evening, and tomorrow!!!
Oh I LOVE ALL the pictures! As you know--Well, I think you know---(lol), My whole garden is Cactus and Succulents! So ALL of these things are right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteHi Old Lady OTH's- nice to see you! Loved your blog pics so much!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics... all I can say is my stapeliad better get it's little back end in gear or else!
ReplyDeleteClaude...do some fertilizer every week right now!!!
ReplyDeleteI love all the photos! My Hoya is blooming right now too....I hate the smell they give off...but will take that any day over the smell of....well I will let you read my blog tomorrow...lol
ReplyDeleteJulie, that 'poo' photo is a hoot!
ReplyDeleteThe others are so interesting. Its great that you have an eye for this kind of stuff...then we also get to enjoy it. Thanks.
Awesome pictures, Julie!! That tree is just fascinating. Hey, on your side pics I saw what looks like a haworthia in a glass pot? Do you just line the bottom with rock or is there a hole in it? Because glass is one thing I've wanted to use but can't drill a hole thru.
ReplyDeleteThat prickly pear is awesome!
ReplyDeletethat sign is fantastically funny...as long as it didn't say 'human poo'. and that hoya sure looks like an umbrella.do you know all the names in your head, or do you have to research these plants?
ReplyDeleteSucculent dish- I think this one has stones in bottom...it was actually one I spotted while working in one of our other offices last week! I have a drill bit especially for glass and ceramics...I found it at Ace Hardware, and I know another blogger, Aiyana from Water When Dry, was also able to find one of them at Ace in Arizona as well. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSoulbrush- You are so funny. I guess it is like anything else, the longer you study a subject, the more you get in your head...but there is SO much I still don't have in my old noggin! A lot more than what I DO know!!! I had studied Hoyas for a time period when I bought my first one, and so that is when I picked up my very basic knowledge of them.
ReplyDeleteThose stapeliads are awesome. Does a clump of them like that smell as bad as I think it does?
ReplyDeleteI love ALL the pics but the prickly pear is my fave!
ReplyDeleteMr Brown Thumb...I hear they are supposed to smell terrible, but mine never has smelled bad...it is covered with flies though...so maybe my nose is clogged????? :)
ReplyDeleteSerena- I love the PP's also!!!
What great pictures!!!!! Thanks for these surprises, the prickly pear tree!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
OMG Julie. I didn't know prickly pear could get that tall. That would be scary if it had spines.
ReplyDeleteI also jus tlove that succulent with all the blooms. I hope you get to play in that area. Any plant that blooms that profusely deserves a nice neat bed to rest in.
