Burst forth Gigantea bloom, and some chihuahua artwork!

Look what I saw when I looked out my kitchen window this morning? Woo-hoo!!! I wanted to get a pic of the bud (it looked more like a huge pod from outer space) yesterday...but I never did, and this morning it was opened to reveal a 12 inch Stapeliad gigantea bloom! The flies are circling, but there is not too much detectable odor to my human nose!

And a close up! I measured from one tip to the end of another tip. I had not ever measured one of my blooms before, but today I was enticed because of how large the bud had been!

Check out what my daughter did with the photo of one of my fall ATC's...can you see the little chihuahua in the scarecrow's arms? I like this much better than my original card...I can pretend that my little Doozey is actually in the artwork!!!

  1. Congrats on the stapelia bloom. Is this your first for this plant?

I like the series of altered ATC's. Reminds me of Andy Warhol.

  4. I had one of these several years ago. It bloomed for me. I didn't notice an odor. They are so unusual. I am glad you posted the picture of this one.

  6. I had the same or very similar cacti in high school and i was gone one summer when it bloomed and my family could smell something coming from my empty room, LOL. So you daughter photoshopped Doozey into the photo? How cool is that? Vickie

  7. Vickie- Actually the chihuahua in the orginal ATC is a pic of one wearing a devil costume from a Halloween flyer I cut out and put on the ATC...so it is not really Doozey...You can see the original card HERE, but when she turned it into this pop art thingy, it makes me think it COULD be Doozey in the pic since she is not so distinguishable. LOL!

  8. Love the Photoshop work. I really like working with Elements and doing stuff like this. Do you edit photos at all yourself?

  9. Aiyana- I do not use Photoshop, but Carolyn does. I have Corel Photo. We were playing around with Fotoflexor.com, an online photo editing place, and one thing you can do is this, with your photos! There is no sign up, and quite a few tools and fun things to do there!!!
