I ran outside to get a picture of what I thought was a bloom on one succulent. My euphorbia lactea. Here is the whole plant...see the bit of red on top??? Well, it turns out it was just new growth, reddening up in the winter sun, which you can see in the next pic. Before you go there, though, I just want to say that I was feeling badly that all these weeds and grasses were growing in the cactus tire (that needed to be cleaned out), when I saw (with my own 2 eyes) the painted buntings that are visiting for the winter, EATING the seeds from the tops of the grasses! They are quite crafty at managing to pull down the tops to get to them...and as I stood there, watching through the kitchen window...I was so pleased that my laziness was actually a treat for my bird friends! It was a very moving moment for me! :)
My little "jelly beans" sux are also getting redder with the winter sun! Aren't they cute??? I always want to eat them! Ha.
I love how this sweet cactus given to my by a fellow blogger friend years ago has grown and is swirling around in a tire outside!
I took this shot of a few really beautiful large birds outside a mall in Stuart, Florida, with two baby chicks following behind. I have to find my bird book to ID them, but see the red on their heads??? They were not shy about being very close to passing cars and I feel instantly in love with them!
My lettuces!!! They are wonderful. My first time growing lettuce and it will not be the last. They are FUN! I made a lasagna tonight which included my own fresh cut kale, lettuces (yes, I mixed the two together), and eggplant. I love these dishes that can include my own vegies. Especially that I know there were no pesticides used. I highly recommend growing lettuce...it seems they do really great in 5 gallon buckets too! :)
Check this out: Emily slipped a stretchy headband on her head and it pulled some of her hair back. With all her curls, it looked like she had spent hours in the beauty shop getting ready to go to a ball. Isn't this hair just stupendous??? I am so jealous! :) Love you, Em's!!!

Unfortunately none of your pictures came up. All I see is an exclamation point in a triangle on a black background.??
ReplyDeleteHi Juile,
ReplyDeleteHope you will be able to get your photos back up onto your blog.

ReplyDeleteyour succulents are wonderful Julie, I love those little red buds developing. You are very thoughtful providing food for the little birds :)
ReplyDeleteThose birds are spectacular but fancy seeing so close in town.
When i was little I am told I used to cry and say "I want turls" which were impossible with my straight hair...if only I had had that beautiful head of hair on your daughter i would have felt like a princess.
Shirley...I must tell you (so no one thinks I am so young to have a daughter this age...bless you), that Emily is my GRAND daughter!! Hehehehe....I wish I could have such a young one...it would mean I could go back 20 years at least~!!! :) LOLOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley!!!

ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure those are Sandhill cranes. How would I know such a thing. A wonderful flickr friend of mine has taken so many photos of them like they are family. She is a wonderful photographer. And your succulents are looking so awesome! And you know what I am so envious of your vegies! This year I would like to grow some but need to find some space! I seriously want to dig up some yard!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the fact that you spotted painted buntings! WOW! Good for you! I keep a watchful eye but haven't seen one. *sigh* Love the Sandhill Cranes!
