OK...introducing CARROTS, ...and some other garden goodies!

Good Sunday morning!!!

I ran out first thing and got a few shots of my garden...in particular the carrots!!! It has been so much fun watching them develope...going from thin little shreds of roots, and slowly gaining in diameter, and finally turning ORANGE!!! I used to love carrots as a child (so I've been told), but then hated them until around 30 years old, and now back to LOVING them again! What is gonna be fun is coming out to pull 3-4 carrots out at a time, and just pulling them out fresh as needed! I would highly recommend growing carrots, if for nothing other than the FUN VALUE! The tops are so pretty and lacey...maybe they could just be an annual for you???

Here are the tops:

And the bottoms (I pulled back the dirt to get the pics, and replaced it around the carrot top as directed).

A few shots of my eggplants:

And the kale:

Here is the developing MR. STRIPEY tomato with two flowers that have just come about!!!

What a lush forest of carrots you have! How long did it take to grow them to this stage? Mine took forever last year, and then after all the waiting they didn't taste that great. So I didn't plant any this year.

omigod are you going to inspire me to get back into the dirt and play? I LOVE the taste of home grown carrots. You can taste the dirt and it tastes GOOD!!!!
Flavors are so REAL when you grow it yourself. I did this for years Julie, had a home veggie garden. But when art came along gardening fell to the wayside. I love that you do a lot of it in pots. I bet I could do that...LOL we'll see. Maybe I'll just stick to art and enjoy yours vicariously even though I can only "remember" what it tastes like.

What a magnificently green thumb you have, Julie! I've tried limited gardening in the past and it is a lot of fun and very rewarding.

Right now, I have too many irons in the fire to give it go. But one day soon that will change!

Everything looks great, Julie! SAM and I increased our blueberry plantings even more this weekend, and now there are two pear trees and a persimmon tree to join the fruit collection. We found them for a great price at a local nursery.

Isn't it funny how our tastes can change back and forth? So many things I refused to eat as a child were suddenly more appealing to me as an adult, and now the digestion factor is kicking in. The old stomach is beginning to rebel at some of my favorite things!

You've convinced me...I'm growing carrots this year! I didn't even think about Kale, but the guinea girls love it...that could be a winner too!

Thanks for your nice comments, guys! Sorry your carrots didn't taste very well, Cindy! This is shocking news to me being as they were grown by YOU, and in CALIFORNIA!!! Maybe a different type would do better??? Hmmm. Of course, I haven't tasted mine yet...I sure hope they are delicious!!!

Your vegies look so awesome girl! Those carrots are huge. Everytime I used to grow carrots they were skinny and squaty. Boy are you going to have some good eats.

Wow Julie!
Your garden is really doing well. Congrats. : ) Those carrots look beautiful and healthy. Love the carrot tops and you can use them in making stock. This year I'm going to put in some eggplants. I didi not plant them last year but this year a must.

Happy Gardening : )

It never occurred to me to wonder how eggplants grow. I don't know that I would have guessed they'd grown on some bush like plant.

Vegetables are definitely starting to grow on me (hahaha) for their ornamental value in addition to what they produce. I definitely need to try growing carrots!
