After dinner fun!

I raced home from work, and made a stop at the scrapbooking place for some Halloween papers to use to cover my mini book that I am making in the shape of a haunted house. Oh yes...I found everything cool for it. Then I raced home to find my DIL had made dinner. I raced in to eat. Then...the most amazing thing happened...

The kids and I started turning an empty diaper box into a haunted house!

I used all my papers to decorate floors and walls. We have one outer wall of the house that has a spooky black tree and owl silhoutte, and my daughter made windows for the outside that showed ghousish figures inside the house. I cut out big blocks of one paper that had different characters on them, and glued them to the indoor walls. We got this far in about 2 hours...and we have a pretty cool looking haunted house! Now each day until Halloween we are making paper furniture and I think a black chandelier, and a few hanging spiders would be cool. Donovan really had fun watching it come together. It's a group project and we are all contributing. Daughter is making an orange couch as we speak! What a really fun evening! Gooooooooooooooodnight!

That looks awesome. That probably was a cooler experience for the kids than just a book. I love it.

Hi Julie *hugs*
WHAT FUN!!! Love it. You all had great imagination and wonderful props of paper to make it. AND out of an empty diaper bag. Wow...this is going to be the bestest project for you and your grandchildren together. You all have such fun!

Hi Carla...I wish you could come and do these fun things with us! I really like to make new things out of recycled stuff mainly...I enjoy taking something that would just be thrown away (like the diaper box) and transforming it. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Hi Julie,

It took me a while before I bought a cutting system. I looked at all the dies from different companies and saw that Sizzix has thinker dies than Spellbinders (which are the very thin dies) and other dies like the Cuttlebug are a little thinker plates. There are the embossing folders (a few companies have different names for theirs). I purchase my Big shot because I was able to use the very thin dies to the very thick dies, plus the embossing folders. Using the thin dies I had to purchase a raised plate or platform to use them. You can see on the Sizzix website the different platforms they have for each machine. I like the handle machine because that is one less thing to go out and much cheaper. Jo-Ann’s has great sales on them and that is where my friend bought hers last year. She loves it. On YouTube they have great videos for dies cut machines, just type in the company name or cutting system. Sizzix does have a machine that just embossing only using their embossing folders. I wanted a system that does it all. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions let me know.

Have a great day.

I love this! What creative kiddos and helpful adults! I think some of those cottony cobwebs and spiders would look great in there. Maybe some tissue ghosts and pipe cleaner mummy!

Wow! which diaper company would ever have imagined such a wonderful use for their boxes...trust Julie and her kiddo gang to come up with the most creative ideas on the planet.
I really feel inspired to try something like that with my daughter, it is such an educational experience for kids.

This is very cute. It looks like something my daughter (age 11) would do. She is constantly making houses for the cats out of boxes, which the cats of course completely shun!

I have a haunted gingerbread house plan percolating to make for my friend who runs the bagel store and also LOVES Halloween!
