Thoughts for today

This morning I got my extra leaves planted up, so I can hopefully get some new plants out of them. I'm content now that this is done. One of the leaves is already putting out roots and new leaves! WOW! Aren't plants amazing? I keep thinking about going to school for a degree in horticulture. They offer one at the local community college. I just recieved my copy of "The Leaflet", the Mounts Botanical Garden quarterly publication, and I see they just hired a real good looking young man, who recieved this same degree from this same school. I am, at this stage of life...thinking about my retirement. I think at that point, when it actually happens, I would like to have a change of career...or work. Something fun, happy, physical, sunshiny, and fresh! Fresh air. Breathing room. No heavy deadlines, or crises, or heartfelt decisions or sadnesses. Just fun freedom. Well...I think I will go look at the curriculum right now. What else do I have to do with my last child graduating from high school in a few weeks!

Here is a close up of that front right leaf in above pic, where you can see the new growth! Yee-haw! The poor leaf looks half beat to death, but it still manages to proliferate! Should have a real purdy new plant in no time at all!

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!

I got home from work just a few minutes ago, and as I was getting out of the car, I glanced over to a few succulents I have sitting on the side of my carport. I was just admiring them, and sort of petting them (I know, I'm sick)...when all of a sudden I saw IT out of the corner of my eye! What was it??? Can you see it below.

I had to run in and get a large stone to put under the stalk of the plant to hold this little bud up so I could even see it! It was so far down under and just sitting on top of the soil...I was surprised I saw it at all. Anyway, I propped it up and took pics...because now the Mystery Plant is about to show the world what her bloom looks like, and maybe we can identify it once and for all. I am so excited I could wet my pants!!! YEAH!!!! I will be watching this very carefully...and don't you know I have the weekend to really observe her so close so as not to miss it!!! The show of shows. Seems like I've been waiting years (OH YEAH, I HAVE)!!!!!

You go girl!!!!!

Wildflowers found at State Park

You know, I've always just seen the "wild Florida" part of the state as one big mass of scrubs, sea grapes, and pines...but I was, and have been recently, (over the past year of occasionally hiking with my husband) amazed at the beautiful flowers, fungi and even wildlife and insects, shells, etc. that I have come upon. I think it has been something that has happened for me since the advent of my digital camera. That is so sad. Why couldn't I see all of this before? Now, I find, photograph, and come home and watch my cameras memory card on my daughter's Wii, in a slideshow. It is so easy now to see them in that large format on my TV screen. I can really see when my picture is REALLY out of focus, too, and go ahead and delete it right then. Well, as soon as I get it back into my camera that is (I can't do it on the Wii). I am grateful to my digital camera for this change in me. I think I may have to make a habit of going on his weekly hikes with him now. I slow him down a lot, but hopefully he will let me tag along! These are some of the wildflowers I shot during our time at Jonathan Dickenson State Park last weekend. What an array. Sorry, I know not names...and for now, that is OK with me, because I have been having a very busy, hectic week at work, and can hardly think past that at this point. Enjoy!
