Birdy doodle, a real birdy, and an alligator snapping turtle!

Grandson Donovan and I were doing some fun art tonight, and I drew out two parrots on the front of an old Your Big Backyard ( a kids magazine done by National Wildlife), and colored them in with pastels. I gave them talking bubbles, and Donovan told me what to have them each saying! So sweet. The pic below is the same sketch with the addition of the lightsaber he drew, colored and cut out to attach! Of course, that immediately made me fall in love with the whole thing...LOL.

Here is a little cute dove that was standing on the back of one of my chairs in the back yard. Awe. The white thing in the grass is the wings to a large styrofoam airplane we fly around from time to time! :)

Last but not least, my hubby, daughter, Donovan and I drove down to the Ft. Lauderdale Science Museum today...they brought out a few live animals to show, and one was an alligator snapping turtle! These things are something else...big thick heavily armored shell, with multiple spikes coming off his neck and head, and this guy NEVER closed his mouth the whole time he was out there...looked like he was ready to snap at someone or thing at any given moment! It was really something to see, and I doubt I had ever seen one before! Sorry about the horrid picture quality, as I only had the darn cell phone!

Here is a better pic and information on these amazing turtles, provided by Wikipedia.

Donavon is so sweet. I love his LOVE STORY with the parrots you drew for him. Kids are great aren't they? Mine are at camp this week the whole family...family camp. What a concept!

We used to get Your Big Back Yard when my boys were little. Then we moved up to Ranger Rick. That was back in the good ol' days....

You have had some fun this weekend. I love your sketche. We have a different type of snapper in our area. They can be ferocious.

I'm with Cindy. We got both those magazines when my boys were little. Really great. Love the pictures and the light saber! LOL

Those turtles are nasty. Sounds like you had fun!

Cindy and Candy---I ordered the magazines for the grandkids from around age three, through whenever they lose interest! So far, Donovan hasn't shown too much interest, but I actually have a whole HAUL of them that I bought for a few dollars, at a city wide garage sale, from the old library collection...I just love them so much! The number of kids that have come to my house that show interest and leave with a few, is amazing...and I just love to have them be excited over something they read in them. I even made a holder (it's really rediculous), with a cereal box and covered it with pictures of chihuahuas from an old calendar! The kids love it, and many times it is the holder that attracts them first!

Those crazy alligator snapping turtles sure are scary looking critters. I see 'em on the Discovery Channel and such every now and then. I'd hate to meet one in the river!

Thanks so much for the comments and compliments on my space. I really don't hear any comments from any one else yet, so they mean a lot.
