Those peas do look great. That cactus is really funny! Here are what the castor beans look like here: http://plant-zone.blogspot.com/2009/08/municipal-gardens.html I think in your climate they'll grow into trees but you should be able to cut them down every year so they stay small.
I should maybe mention here that they are poisonous. So if there is anything that will eat the foliage I wouldn't plant them. They also produce poisonous seeds. You can prevent this by cutting off the flowers though and the pods take a long time to develop so you should be able to find them before they open.

Castor beans produce Ricin and are poisonous. I think in Florida they're considered a noxious weed, and they will grow to huge proportions. There are some that have escaped into the wild, I know.

About my roses, I have 22 rose bushes. I need to do a post showing where they are planted. I still want a few more. : ) It all started with one mini rose bush about nine years ago. That rose is still doing well. Happy gardening.
Castor oil does come from castor beans.. the oil can be separated from the solids in the bean... the solids are what contains the poison. However, making it at home would be very risky.
Historically, there are a few famous murder cases that involved Ricin... but almost all poisonings are accidental nowadays. I really wouldn't recommend the plant around the grand-kids...
I can't believe my eyes. These babies are beautiful! Love your cowpeas, they are growing very well! I am great here and I love your cactus and succulents too. My favourite shots are the first, third and bottom shots. Incredibly beautiful!
