White Ibis visitor and a sketch!

One of "the girls" came by to dig around in my yard yesterday morning! She had such a gorgeous tomato red color to her beak and legs/feet, I just had to try a photo shoot with her.

She must be used to people trying to get close, because she didn't seem too nervous at all.

My neighbor came out and we stood there talking, and slowly moving closer to her, and she was a good girl for me.

Not trying to move away too quickly. The closest I was able to get to her was about 8 ft. away.

I had to take fairly repetitive shots to get anything worthwhile.

Cute poses, girly!!!

Thankyou very much!

I decided to try a little sketch, and then I used the pastels my lovely SIL found at a thrift somewhere...and are they not a gorgeous array of colors??? 48 'Conte A Paris' pastels!!! They are really neat. Thankyou, Lynn!!! I love how they are round and not square! Kinda sexy.

I think pastels are definately something you could become addicted to!!! So soft and forgiving. I need as much of that last part as I can get!!! I'm all about allusion! LOLOL!

Happy rest of the week to you all!
xoxo- Julie

Thanks guys! I don't know what these birds pick out of the grass, but they sure do pick something out...I am thinking maybe some kind of bug...hopefully not chinch bugs!!! (Or termites)!!! LOL.

You do live in another world. To have a white Ibis in your garden is such a treat. Amazing how it let you get so close. What a lucky girl to be gifted with some pastels. I am not sure what they are but I have heard people talk about them. I like your sketch.

I love your sketch! I am so inept at drawing but would love to improve. Did you take lessons or just learn on your own? Those birds are fairly common around our house too. They like to hang out in the cotton and peanut fields nearby. Like you, I'm wondering if they're after bugs or seeds. You're lucky to get such a closeup of it. Whenever I try, they fly away.

Oh MY GOODNESS!!! How amazing!!! And your pastel drawing is just gorgeous! You are truly talented. The most exciting bird I get here in Texas is some wild Quaker parakeets.

Walk2write- I have never taken a drawing class, but just give it a try every once in a while. The best thing I ever did was to buy a little puch that holds a pencil and colored pencils and a little sketchbook, and put it in my purse. You would be amazed at how every once in a while you can make something that looks kinda neat. It spurs you on to keep trying. I really like this Ibis too. Most of my stuff isn't that good. (Just being honest)...but I really enjoy trying...especially with theis group of artists that visit my blog and give me encouragement...(you know who you are, people)... Love ya'll!!!

Hey Curious Holt- I will look up your wild Quaker parakeet in my bird book! I want to see what that Quaker bird looks like. (I consider myself a Quaker)! Thanks for telling me about that! I love your blog, so of course, I had to add you to my blogroll!!! :)

What lovely pics! I really like your sketch...add the date and some text in there about your experience with the ibis and you have yourself an art journal page. Nice job!

I really like the Ibis! You should frame it. I'm thinking of making some gulf birds- pelican, ibis maybe.. some little sandpipers--maybe turn them into a little 'band' and sell on etsy--or give to my gulf living relations. I was thinking--if you sold things like that on etsy--you could donate part of the sale to the cleanup or to a charity on the gulf.
I always enjoy your simple drawings! Also--I have a Quaker Parakeet-- Sweet Pea (aka 'mean pea') He lives here in Pokeberry with Bubba the mustache parakeet.

Nice sketch, I see you have been playing with gelatine prints too, they are such fun.
Our ibis are either white and black or black and white! No red. Yours are spectacular.

Mary- great idea, but lacking in time...am coming up with a new idea for income tonight. Will talk more later...

Penny- thanks for coming over and seeing my Ibis! I learned about Gelatin printing from you! I can't do it though...I need to talk to you further!
