EDM # 5 by daughter, and new bromeliads!!!

I think I may have decided (at least in my mind) what makes a real artist! You can tell me if I am wrong...I may be completely wrong, and I hope I am cause then I could call myself one! My daughter has the ability to draw from her own mind. I have to be looking at something. I feel if I really was a true artist I would be able to do this! Anyway, I just wanted to show you her version of EDM #5 (Draw a bed), which she sat down and drew out in a few minutes...right out of her own brain. I am truly jealous of that ability!

Ain't that something??? Now I know many of you have this ability, and you are just SOOOOOO GOOOOD in my book!!!

Last night Mom and I had gone driving around specifically to look for rental houses for a certain someone I know, and we found these 4 bromeliads that someone had set out by the road for pick up. There are three in the pot on the left. I was thrilled because 3 of them have pink tips! Do you think there is any way I could have left them there??? Not a chance! This is how they look now, and I will take pics once I get them planted. I believe I may have found the perfect shady area where I can see them every day. Right up under one edge of my hibiscus hedge by my front door. They would also kind of hide the lower limbs and roots of the hibiscus (it's kind of a more open area down there). What more could I ask? YEAHHH!!!

I have those two bromeliads as well! One is neoregelia spectabilis or "painted fingernail" plant and the other is a hybrid with n. spectabilis as the parent! I was able to leave them out with no protection this winter, but they still looked ratty by spring. I would give them part shade/part sun with some tree cover for the best color. What an awesome find!

Julie Julie Julie, see that little poem on your sidebar? "You can if you think you can" Yes, You can and are an artist. I think I am an artist but I can rarely draw something from my mind (unless it is a zentangle :). I also greatly admire people that can do this, so we will just keep plugging along.

Oh, and how lucky to find those bromeliads!! Cant wait to see them after they are planted. They just need some love and TLC.

Excellent find by the road... don't you just love foundlings? There's something special about a plant that needs you, isn't there?

Waah! Sometimes I just want to knock you on the head! You're too hung up on the word "artist".

It doesn't matter if you can't do what someone else does, or do it "as well". (and anyway, isn't a zentangle just made up out of your mind? Huh? HUH? And you've made those, right?? So you CAN do draw without looking at something!)

Art is all in the mind, anyway. It's why one person's graffiti is another person's Mona Lisa. You are an artist if you are creating something. You are using various materials with purpose, you are involved in a process to create, and (if you're lucky) you and/or other people derive pleasure in the beholding of....whatever it is.

But the word "artist" doesn't matter. It's the joy of creation. The joy, matters, Julie. And you have that, most definitely.

Oh yeah, and also I like that last plant with the speckles and the pink tips.

Rainforest- thanks for the tips for planting and the actual names of these beauties!!!

Teri and Cindy- thanks you guys for the "beat down"!!! :) You are the best...and I do understand what you are saying! That poem in my sidebar is part of why I keep trying, for sure, and Cindy, the part about enjoying the process and creating is very touching for me! Thankyou both for your comments!!!

Claude-oh yes, it was very fun and they really were calling out to me!!!

Roadside plants are awesome. I wish I could find some bromeliads here in Chicago.

Congrats on the score.

I love all the different varieties of bromeliads and their magnificent flowers.

Lovely drawing by your daughter BUT...please know that not all artists draw from their minds. Zentangles are from the mind and you have done those, right? Stop beating yourself up, girl....you ARE an artist and, since you started drawing, I have noticed your work just keeps on getting better and better. WTG!

I too envy people who can draw (realistically) from their minds. I need to see things, but I think as you continue to make artwork you get better at this! I agree with a poster above that YOU ARE an artist whether you have this ability or not. You are just artistic in a different way :)
