I was inspired by Messyfish, with her surge of pastel drawings! So...last night I went and bought some black paper, and did a chalk pastel myself. Again I returned to the flower tire garden and here is what I saw. The plants include white and orange impatiens, kale, purple salvia, coleus, yellow marigolds, and pink periwinkles. One photo with flash...
and one without... (I like this one better)
It's a fun process...really messy...especially when it is windy, like it is right now! I tried to spray my picture with sealer, and a lot of the color (especially the purple) just disappeared...so I threw it out. Hey, at least I have an electronic record of it. Happy Sunday to you all!!!

Julie your pastel drawing was wonderful. I'm so sorry it was ruined by the sray!!! Wonder what you can use to preserve pastels???
That's brilliant! I love it. I am going to do more derail lie yours. It looks excellent. But I am devestated you threw it out!? I use a fixative that is especially for pastel drawings so I don't have any probs like that. It does get messy though... I always take it outside and blow away the excess before spraying fixative!
I love the black gesso below too!
Waah! Did you really throw that out?! The initial wetness of the fixative spray will make stuff look darker at first, but the colors should go back to normal after it dries. Go get that beautiful painting out of the trash!
It looks so beautiful Julie! And you threw it out? Must be quite a spray on that sealer! Go get it out!!
Sometimes I am happier with the electronic copy than with having the real thing. Saves a ton of space, that's for sure!
I forgot that you like to draw. It was a lovely piece while it lasted. It's nice, too, that you married two loves...your plants and your art.

Very pretty. I like how the chalk looks on the black paper.
That's very pretty! Glad you got it captured before you lost the original, very nice!
Very impressive... love how the colors glow on dark papers... when I was taking private art classes, back in the dark ages (high school) our teacher had us use pastels on regular paper, then dark paper, then on very fine sandpaper... the sandpaper gave a result that was almost velvety. Haven't done any of that in years tho...
I know nothing about pastels yet they intrigue me. I like your attempt here. I like the rich colors.
How pretty! I haven't "played" in a very long time, but I love the effect. Bright and fun. Thanks for sharing!
Good thing for digital cameras! You throwing it away reminds me of the Buddhist monks (?) who make art out of color sand only to let it get blown away.
