Fun this past weekend...

This past Sunday my DIL and I took the grands to the best park. I found that the 5 year old magnet was the sand area! There must have been 7-8 little kids in there digging. One boy who was about 14 helped them dig tunnels and a large volcano. He was worth his weight in gold with those kids. He had them entertained for hours! I am looking for a wholesale large number of plastic digging toys (shovels, etc.) to buy, so I can take about 10 with us when we go, so every child can play with something. I would love to be the good fairy that brings 10 shovels every day and leaves them for the kids. That older boy dug up quite a few small toys and things deep under the sand, and it was always a huge delight for the kids. This was the highlight of my weekend (well...other than going to an old-time religion sing along at the church I have been recently attending). That was fun. Held in a log cabin behind the church...you can take an instrument and play along. I took my psaltry (medieval instrument) and played chords along with the group.

Picture from Unicorn Strings, the people I bought my psaltry from years ago. They are great...

Anyway, just a few fun times from this past weekend. I find myself thinking of them often and just thought I would share with you. Have a fun Tuesday everyone!

Love the psaltry! Sounds like the kids had a blast.

About the cleistocactus... These are South American cactus, and they like a little more water than most of the North American ones. Given lots of light, they bloom prety dependably, about once every six weeks. A little fertilizer in the water every month or so won't hurt, especially if it hasn't been repotted recently. If I remember right, your's should start branching this summer. You might want to think about a little hanging basket for it?

Thanks Claude. The pot I have the Cleistocactus in is WAY TOO SMALL...so I suppose I will find a hanging basket...but where to hang it around here????? Yikes...I'll have to search out a spot. Hey...maybe I can do a sort of fountain effect in a tire...like you did with your different sized pots...and put this guy in the top pot!!! Now that would be fun!!!

So interesting Julie. I love hearing about the older boy doing good works. It's great that you are going to bring more toys.
Wonderful weekend indeed!

When I had my home daycare, I would have dump truck loads of sand dumped and could sit and watch the children play for hours just as you described!

It's wonderful that the older boy hasn't given up on his childhood just yet. He will probably be a great dad someday. Julie, you should have someone record you playing the psaltry. I would love to hear it.

Hi Julie
You had a fabulous time with the grandkids. What a great toy fairy you would make Julie. How cute. It looks like your weather is getting warmer too and you can really enjoy the outdoors.

It sounds like you had a really good weekend. How clever you are to be able to play a psaltry. I didn't know they were called that.

Hope today is exceptionally great for you too!
Judi

It's interesting to watch the children playing and help others to play. The music instrument is new to me. I thing it may sound like a violin!? It has many strings!

Oh what a delightful story of Donovan in the dandbox!
It is so nice when older kids play with them. My son Lars who is 15 loves to entertain small kids and has lots of patience with them.
My youngest not, I didn't teach them anything it is just in the person or not. Great to watch though.
Love your story about the shovels.
O I wish I were loaded too.........

Well I guess we are both rich in a different way!
